19 March

Last night mum called me at my Beijing abode, feels great to hear voices from home.

Went to walk the hutongs recommended by LP, not bad really. On the long way to the place they recommended, we happened to pass by a few buildings with some sort of history significance. A really welcomed surprise anyway. Then it occured to me that a history lesson should always be complete with a field trip to the places mentioned in the lessons.

The walk ended at 宋庆龄故居. A really nice place, and she's really a great woman who worked for the good of the people, whom also never took sides in politics that would render the common folks at the losing end.

Then as we back track on the 后海 area (looks like boat quay!), we walked past a 公园 where there was a lot of elderly and children doing all sorts of activities. There are people playing table tennis, those exercise stations, chess and even swimming across the river (mind you ... it is still cold loh).

And then bo dai bo ji, got a ah-pek 'challenge' me to Chinese chess. He wasn't even playing in the first place. He just looked at me and then said I got the Chinese chess look haha and asked me to play with him. Then he got the people at the table to move away so we could play chess. Of coz I 奉陪 loh ... give him face also mah. It was pretty fun, coz I have never played chess in a park and certainly not with many ah-peks watching and commenting at the same time. Well, I conceded the game with only 1车, while he still had one set of 车马炮 ... surely no fight one lah.

Today was quite dissed about last minute changes that screwed things up a bit. Other than that, it was a great sunday for me.

Heard there is going to be a 五月天 校园演唱会 at 北大 this Thursday. I WANT TO GO!!! Hopefully Esther can get us the tickets to the concert!
